Why Commerce Home Mortgage is a Certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI)
At Commerce Home Mortgage, we believe in the power of home. But not everyone who wants to buy a home can, when faced with the requirements for a conventional or traditional mortgage. That’s not OK with us. And it is why Commerce is a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).
The CDFI program matches our mission to help the people who might have different circumstances than the typical buyer to realize their dreams of homeownership. Community Development Financial Institutions share a goal of expanding economic opportunity in underbanked communities through access to financial products like mortgages.
Communities need access to basic financial services and affordable credit to thrive, but some neighborhoods and the people who live in them haven’t typically had that access. As a CDFI, Commerce Home Mortgage offers programs and products for the self-employed, cash-business owners, and other borrowers who want to invest in their neighborhoods where opportunities may be limited otherwise.
Commerce Home Mortgage is one of about 1,000 CDFIs operating nationwide. In 2019, CDFIs helped improve neighborhoods across the U.S. with measurable results. These organizations:
• Financed more than 19,000 businesses
• Provided funding for more than 51,300 affordable housing units
• Originated more than $21.5 million in loans and investments
Our CDFI status enables us to help borrowers in underbanked communities get the flexible financing they need to invest in their neighborhoods and their homes, whether that means a place to host Thanksgiving or a simply a spot to relax after a long workday.
Commerce Home Mortgage makes the dream of homeownership possible for people in the diverse communities we serve. Through a variety of traditional and non-traditional mortgage products, we empower borrowers to invest in their homes, their communities, and their future.
